Language Roots is a dynamic and engaging program that explores Greek and Latin roots as the foundation for understanding English vocabulary and word derivations. Rather than focusing on everyday vocabulary, this course equips students with the tools to decode unfamiliar words they’ll encounter in high school, college, and beyond. The primary goal is not only to learn specific vocabulary but also to develop the analytical skills needed to uncover the meanings of new words through their roots. Instead of traditional workbooks, students will use interactive tools such as index cards, a file box, and a reliable dictionary. Each lesson introduces a single Greek or Latin root, its meaning, and a selection of English words derived from it. For example, the lesson on the Greek root kinesis (meaning \\\"movement\\\") includes derived words such as kinetic, kinesiology, cinema, and cinematographer. Students will create personalized index cards for each root, marking Greek words with a green border and Latin words with red. On the back of the card, students list derived words and their meanings.
